Preparing Leaders for Traumatic Organizational Disruptions and Their Aftermath
Justin Dewberry, PsyD
Post-Doc/Early Career; Mid-Level Consulting Psychologists
Trauma, in all forms, is inevitable in organizations. Consultants are charged with helping leaders to process their own emotional reactions, dialogue empathically with staff, and promote organizational healing following the immediate crisis. Effective consultants must be mindful of both emotional and functional sequalae of trauma in order to help leaders process the disruption effectively and steady the organization in times of turmoil. Specific skills to help leaders navigate these challenges will be shared.
- Explain three methods for understanding how an organizational disruption has traumatized a system.
- Explain the three stages of organizational healing.
- Demonstrate at least two techniques used to facilitate the organizational stages of healing.
