Abstract
The boards that govern organizations can have a great impact on how those organizations perform and on the lives of thousands of stakeholders. Unfortunately, boards of directors are an important potential client population that has been underserved by consulting psychologists. This interactive program is focused on how consulting psychologists can bring their training and skills to assist boards in maximizing their effectiveness. By attending this session, you will be better able to serve boards by understanding how boards need to add value and how, as a consulting psychologist, you can provide an assessment service that can produce recommendations for improving board effectiveness. Participants will be put into a role play with various stakeholder positions in an actual board intervention to deepen their appreciation for the perspectives of those stakeholders about board effectiveness.

Learning Objectives

  • List the 7 dimensions of effective governance.
  • Describe at least three reasons why the survey and interview methods presented in this concurrent session are effective in assessing  an executive board population.
  • List three key characteristics for delivering effective board evaluation proposals for prospective clients.
