Understanding the next wave of leadership requires an understanding of power and how it can be used to increase the impact of the consultant or coach and the clients they serve.  This workshop combines presentations about research on power, case studies and experiential activities. We will provide practical strategies for participants to improve their own use of power and ways to enhance the constructive and effective use of power in their clients and client organizations.

Participants will be encouraged to reflect on how they currently perceive and use power and explore ways they can broaden their methods and increase their personal impact in order to best serve their clients. We will also help them gain greater sophistication in their understanding of power dynamics in their clients and client organizations.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify at least two of the participant’s own strengths and least two of the participant’s own weaknesses in the way that they use power in working with clients
  • Identify at least 5 types of power
  • Explain two ways in which working at the level of personality or individual traits (“influence tactics”) differs from working at the systems level
